Obviously, we need a new thread.

Okay, shall I go on topic again?
Since Galactica borrowed at least some things from ancient history and I happened to know something on the naming in Ancient Egypt... Could it be the names they go by is merely their common name and next to that they also have a religious name, kind of like a family name. The Ancient Egyptians never used their religious names anywhere except for in their tombs and religious texts so the gods knew which Ramses for instance was addressing them. The archeologist later used this to rank them Ramses I, II, III, etc. but in normal live they only went by the name Ramses.
Also it might be interesting to go into the fact that the names itself, also like in Ancient Egypt, have meaning and what these are. In Hebrew the word pronounced "Adama" means earth. _________________ GALACTICA.TV | My Battlestar Galactica | Terry Carter - official site | Anne Lockhart - official site |

Yours is probably the closest hit yet. Adama would, in that system, be "Adama, son of...", similar in form to the Egyptian general "Amenhotep sa (son of) Hapu", or the Pharaoh "Sneferu sa Huni." As well as just "Adama", and whatever other names might apply. Whatever Clan, gens, sept, or other subdivision Colonial society divides the Tribes into, he would probably also have a name, relative to that unit.
Has anyone ever querried Larson on this point? _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

But McDonnell has a much better power of recall. |

Actually, that was the reason why I said McDonnell in stead of Larson. If you heard McDonnell in the 1993 Galacticon panel and you also saw Larson's panel on that same con (I happen to have it all on video for easy look back), you know McDonnell is definitely the guy to talk to about stuff like this. McDonnell even still exactly knows where Larson at one point "goofed up" and explains the fans the whole senton story and why they suddenly made the senton-week a senton-minute and changing the secton-week into a senton. _________________ GALACTICA.TV | My Battlestar Galactica | Terry Carter - official site | Anne Lockhart - official site |

Absolutely right, and it was amusing how the next day, Jim Carlson was apologizing at another panel for not being as good as McDonnell in the recall department.
That kind of great power of recall is *exactly* what any person in charge of a new Galactica project, be it in the filmed or print medium should have or be able to draw from. |
