Yup. Ex-hoo....uh, "Designated Asocialator", now cracker-jack med-tech. This lady is obviously as flexible as they come, and ready to handle almost any challenge.
What do you see in her?

Going off on a tangent inspired by the off topic Athena thread, and maybe something I read in the Chameleon thread too, but obviously they could have left the socialator as just that.

Did she seduce Starbuck--oh, twist my rubber arm!!-- looking for continued protection? Or as reward for him 'saving' her? Or simply because of mutual attraction? All three?

Obviously, they (producers) felt the need to make her character more respectable. And perhaps Starbuck's too, by association. Would have been interesting if they had left things as is. What do you see changing if they had?

I think we would have seen less of a compassionate character if they had left Cassie as an asocialator. After all, a tart is a tart, but as a med tech, a deeper aspect of her character was allowed to blossom forth. We wouldn't have seen the heroine of the Gamoray mission if they had not made the change.

Perhaps. But obviously there was an aspect to Cassie prior to the Destruction that Cain was attracted to, and I'm assuming it was more than sexual by his reaction in Living Legend. She likely had the depth you speak of before she became a med tech. Probably gained through the life experience of a socialator. I always assumed that the socialator designation was considered more of a 'profession' with specific training, and was therefore taken more seriously than the typical hookers of our place and time. Except by the Otori Sect, that is.

She also mentioned to Adama, in TLP, that her father was an Aerian merchant, and she transmitted for him alot. Obviously, she was widely travelled, and doubtless mixed with alot of different sorts of people and races before settling in to her "regular job".
