So . . . how many battlestars do you suppose were destroyed along with the Atlantia? Assuming there was a battlestar for each colony, minus the Galactica, and the Pegasus . . . Ten others? Maybe? Looked like there was less somehow.
Hmm, now if the Atlantia was Adar's ship and the seat of government was on Caprica--assumed--which colony did the Galactica represent? We have always assumed she represented Caprica as well.
Two battlestars for every President (sing it Jan and Dean!) |

I never got the idea that there was one Battlestar for each Colony. Just my perception, I suppose. Aside from the five we saw on screen at Cimtar, the was also the Pegasus, missing and presumed lost. There was also the Rycon, Commander Cronus' old ship. It was never stated, on screen anyway, that the Rycon was lost in battle. We are told that Cronus, despite serious wounds, rallied his forces and destroyed three BaseShips, so the Rycon must still have been operational at some point. My take, FWIW, was that she was back home in the Colonies, probaby either in repair dock, or maybe the boneyard, waiting for the cutting torches. With the Armstice near, repairs to her would probably have slowed to a crawl, or she was ordered decommissioned and scrapped. That makes seven Battlestars. I am just assuming that there were more at Cimtar that we just didn't see.
Your take? _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Again, I think this is why I started this thread. One of the confusing bits I was hoping for some input on. There's a line in Saga where Adar says something about the delegates returning to their ships. I think that was what made me think that each battlestar represented a Colony, but the numbers didn't seem to add up. As you point out, we saw five battlestars at Cimtar, yet there were clearly twelve Councilmembers.
Oddly, I started giving it a lot more thought when we started the Round Robin, where I decided it would be a real challenge to try and convince the readers that Adama had been duped by Adar, and that the search for Earth had been carefully plotted and manipulated. That Baltar was actually there to mislead the Cylons into believing they had someone willing to give up the Colonies, meanwhile Adar was mounting a counterattack beyond the old moon. The counter attack occurred after the Fleet departed, ensuring that Adama would go on to find Earth, and prove that the Book of the Word was sacred text, not just myth.
It's been a fun write, and Eugenia has been great from the Baltar angle, obviously. |

Convoluted plot line, I must admit.
Yes, it was a tad confusing, but we saw only five Battlestars, and know of two more within a "recent" timeframe. Does anyone know from earlier script drafts or notes if Larson envisioned more than five? Or was he limited budgetarily in some way, FXwise? _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Probably a limited budget, I would assume. When I did a Saga adaptation, I think I envisioned seven or eight at the time. The Saga novelization specifically named only one other Battlestar besides the Galactica and Atlantia, the Solaria, and of course we also had the Columbia named in GOIPZ. |

And in the background chatter, we heard mention of the Acropolis, and a voice saying no response from Battlestars Triton or Pacifica.
Yeah, more than five. _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Also, Adar was soooooo under baltar's thumb. I can't help wonder if Baltar had somehow managed to drug him, to make him pliabe. Even Adar should have seen what was coming, as the Raiders closed in. _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger
