Okay, not going to be a politically correct topic, but then again, I haven't side-swiped any shuttles lately, so bear with me.
It was the seventies, and men of action, especially military men, were widely accepted as having a few drinks, and climbing into spaceships, fighter planes, and sports cars, before they all went out to save the universe, or the damsel in distress.
Yes, the officer's club figures prominently as the meeting place of choice, especially in fanfiction. Our boys hung out there, not the least bit concerned that a klaxon could alarm, and they would have to launch with a few grogs under their belts. In Hand of God, Tigh actually sent them all off to the bar for 'one' drink on Adama before they launched.
So with that in mind, what were the rules? We saw them all get polluted so badly they weren't even responding to the klaxon under Iblis' influence. Was there a cut off? Was anybody watching? Or were the Colonial Warriors their own sentinels when it came to wrapping their shaking hands around a mug of comfort? |

It matters not that it was "the seventies". All military organizations have rules, and I am sure the Colonials are no exception. They were there, they were just never delineated, because it wasn't germaine to the story line. If you recall, in WOG, Tigh tells Adama, regarding "curfew for bridge officers", that "some leeway has been granted". Obviously, this was at serious variance with accepted or tolerated practice, hence Adama's anger. Under normal circumstances, any on-duty person, officer or enlisted, who went over the limit would have been put on report, and maybe warmed a cell for a while in the brig. _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Yet, when Tigh offered Commander Kronus a drink in TTC, Adama looked at Tigh sympathetically when Kronus admonished him for drinking on duty. |

Oh, and Adama was angry because it was Iblis granting the leeway in WOTG. Isn't that so? |

True, but Tigh hadn't noticed the clock during the preceeding 0.000000001 centons, like Kronus had. And I suspect Kronus was the sort who would have considered going to the turbo flush, or dying, as unauthorized activity while on duty! _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Quite right, but a hungover crew does no one any good. And since the objects buzzing the Fleet were an unknown quantity, getting launched was even more critical. I'd have been pissed too. _________________ "The dull mind rises to Truth through that which is material." -Suger

Well, considering the subject, how do you define 'pissed'? |

Hmm. Which one means drunk? American or British? We're bilingual up here in Canada, you know. |
